The First Appointment

Getting started in counseling can seem overwhelming --even scary-- but I want to join you in this life-changing process.  So if you have questions, I'm happy to spend the time answering your concerns. Therapy involves a significant commitment of time, money, and effort, so it is important that you feel comfortable with the therapist with whom you are working. Thus, I offer two appointment options for our first appointment. 

Consultation

First, I provide a 30-minute consultation for the purpose of meeting, going over paperwork, answering questions, discussing if and how counseling could be of benefit to you, and to ensure that we are a good match to work together in counseling. I offer this appointment with no obligation, which means if you decide not to continue counseling with, you will not be charged for this appointment. 

Intake

The second option is a 90-minute intake appointment. In addition to the tasks above, we discuss matters in more detail to help us both better understand your situation and context and your goals for counseling. Then, we collaboratively decide on an initial treatment plan to structure and hopefully meet those goals. This appointment can be scheduled as your first appointment if feel ready and confident to "dive in" to the therapeutic process. Otherwise, it can be scheduled after the consultation.
